How to get to Letchworth State Park

Here’s an overview of each mode of transport you can use to reach Letchworth State Park.

Car

Letchworth State Park has six entrances, all accessible by car. However, some are closed during winter, so check out the park website or call and find out which are inaccessible before visiting.

Your choice of entrance depends on where you’re coming from and the activities you want to enjoy.

For instance, the Portageville and Castile entrances would be best if you want access to waterfalls, cabins, and gorge views.

The Mt. Morris entrance is best if you want views of the Mt. Morris dam, or plan to visit the fall Arts and Crafts festival.

Bus

If you absolutely cannot get to the park by car, there is one option to get there by bus (other than a bus tour).

This is to catch the Letchworth bus line from Geneseo, NY. The cost is $2 per person, making it a cheap alternative.

The downside is that it only runs on Saturdays between 10 am and 2:30 pm, leaving you only about four hours to do any exploring in the park.

It also means that you are limited to the nearby environs of the bus drop-off point since you’ll have to rely on walking to see anything else in the park. The bus drops off close to the Middle Falls area, at the Trout Pond loop.

The distance between this bus stop and the Middle Falls area is an 11-minute walk.

Buses run every two hours, so be sure not to miss the one you need, and especially not the last one of the day, or you’ll be stuck at the park overnight.

Train

If you want to take a train to Letchworth, the best you can do is one that will get you to Rochester. From there you’ll have to rent a car or take the aforementioned bus.

You will get on the train at New York Penn Station if you’re in New York. The trains take seven hours and 43 minutes to get to the park, and they leave after every four hours and charge between $85 and $210 for a premium seat.
